Nutmeg (Jaiphal)

Nutmeg, locally known as Jaiphal, is the dried seed of the Myristica fragrans tree. Native to the Spice Islands of Indonesia, nutmeg is now cultivated in tropical regions like India (especially Kerala). Known for its warm, sweet, and slightly nutty flavor, nutmeg is used in culinary, medicinal, and cosmetic applications.

This aromatic spice is commonly added to Indian desserts, spice blends, baked goods, and beverages. Nutmeg also holds a special place in Ayurveda, where it is used as a natural remedy for digestion, sleep disorders, and joint pain.

It contains powerful bioactive compounds such as myristicin and eugenol, which contribute to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial effects.

How to Use Nutmeg (Jaiphal):

  • Grated into Desserts like Kheer, Halwa & Custards
  • Used in Spice Blends (Garam Masala, Pumpkin Spice)
  • Added to Baked Goods (Cookies, Pies, Cakes)
  • Stirred into Milk, Lattes, or Herbal Teas
  • Mixed with Honey or Ghee as an Ayurvedic Remedy
  • Used in Soaps, Oils, and Skin Care Products
